30-05-2010 ARUNDEL CASTLE
START: 30-05-2010 10:00, END: 31-05-2010 17:00, BPAS SHOW: Yes, CONFIRMED: Yes
Location: Arundel Castle, Arundel, West Sussex
Description: Invite only Multi-soc show at Arundel castle run by the FitzAlan household. We have a specific invite to attend. Bank holiday weekend, but event is only Sun & Mon.

The FitzAlan Household (Raven Tor Living History Group), as resident group at the castle, would like to invite you to participate in a siege at the castle over the bank holiday weekend. This is a strictly be invite basis only, and due to the size of the site, will be a series of skirmishes, culminating in the rout of the attackers encampment at the end of the day.

Arundel Castle have endeavoured to portray its living history events to a high standard of authenticity, and expects all participants to interact with the visitors. They want Authentic tents/encampments, but there is also the usual provision for plastic camping including caravans and camper vans.

Set up can be after 530pm on Friday 28th and Saturday 29th May Please be aware the public are on site on the Saturday so all tents equipment will have to be secured or someone in attendance.

he show itself is Sun & Mon, but we can arrive friday evening 5pm onwards to set up. So any authentic tents set up will be on display, so to speak, Saturday, but theres no battle or events. I'll be planning a Sat evening arrival, if anyone is planning on going friday let me know so I can tell the organisers.

Vehicles can only be in the Castle grounds before 10am and after 5pm. You are welcome to continue set up between 10and 5 but only with vehicles off site, please. There are no such restrictions on access to the plastic camp so you can drive on/off that all day.

These means we can't drive onto the authentic campsite to set up between 1000 & 1700. So if planning to camp on authentic and arriving fri or sat either arrange to turn up outside that time, or park up in plastic and amuse yourselves until we can get cars on, if arriving sun morning try to get there before 10 to drop off, otherwise park up in plastic and kit up there for the day, tent will probably have to wait until the evening unless we can get enough helpers to carry it in.

Participants setting up on Saturday during open hours will need a Castle pass and to wear this at all times. I will get all out names to the organisers so they know who to expect. Let me know if you plan to arrive during Sat day though So I can tell them to expect you in particular and have passes ready.

Please let us know if you are interested and what your camping (authentic or plastic) arrangements will be. There may be some expenses depending on what sort of turn out we get.

31-07-2010 GRAFTON REGIS
START: 31-07-2010 11:00, END: 01-08-2010 16:00, BPAS SHOW: Yes, CONFIRMED: Yes
Location: The field behind Grafton Regis village hall, The Lane, Grafton Regis, NN12 7HW
Description: New medium sized multi-soc show that we will be organising and running ourselves!, so looking for a good turnout. We are hoping to make this a reasonable sized event and it will be paid so expenses will be available.

We are responsible for running the battle, providing re-enactors and for a participation archery stall. For the stall we will need volunteers to man it, hopefully in shifts so no-one gets stuck there all day.

Note: Other groups can attend on an invite only basis.

There will be a society trading stall so if you have anything to sell bring it along.

Site open Friday 12:00 until Monday 12:00.

Simon and Helen are the leads but will need other volunteers to help out, please let us know if you can help when responding.

Two battles a day at one dark age (at 12:00), one medieval (at 14:30). Medieval will be based around the taking of the Princes by Richard III following the death of Edward IV from the locality.
The battle area will be open to audience on three sides, with a backdrop on one, with some living history tents behind. The battle field is expected to be approx 30 yds by 30 yds, to keep it relatively intimate.

We are aiming for a combatant turn out of around 60, plus associated non-combs. Archery possible in one direction, bring your own blunts.

Currently, alongside British Plate, the following groups have been invited and accepted: Devons (DMCA), Black Serpents, and the Marcher Freeman will be sending a small contingent

Traders are being arranged, a mixture of modern, local crafts & medieval but actual ones TBC.

The church will be open, with its fine 14th Century Effigy of Thomas Woodville.
There will be some music in the church throughout the day.
Historic guided tours round the village (with some well-known personalities) will be run by the villagers, to celebrate the wider context of Grafton as one of Henry VIII's hunting lodges, the site of a Civil War Seige, the history of the Dukes of Grafton, and of course, the marriage of Elizabeth Woodville to Edward IV in the village.

We shall also be running a small arena with various items.
A local lady with a background in historic fashion would like to run a medieval fashion show, which would be a nice opportunity for some of the non-combatants to take centre stage.
It is also hoped to get the local morris dancers and possibly some other local groups involved.

Beer tent by trollsbottom bar. Teas, coffees, cakes in village hall. Good local pub for food, possibly doing breakfasts if enough interest. On site Hot catering from thursday night by the Giddy Kipper (http://www.giddy-kipper.co.uk) offering a re-enactor/trader Weekend Meal Deal food ticket if people want to take up that offer, although meals can be bought on an individual basis. Hot & cold drinks will also be available at re-enactor friendly prices.

This would mean perhaps some dozen people being actively involved on the ground, which will hopefully mean a well run and un-chaotic event.

Opens to public between 11:00 & 16:00 each day.
