Society Details

A MEDIEVAL RE-ENACTMENT SOCIETY, Covering a large period in history (1300-1485) there are limitless ideas for costume and armour, from archer to fully armoured Knight, cannon crew to skirmisher. This is a hobby that can cost as much or as little as you want, as most of the basic equipment can be made at home, the extras are up to you!

We have no restrictions on woman fighting, other than they must dress as men and take on a male character whilst in battle. There are a number of non-combatant roles available such as archer, cannon crew, handgunner, standard bearer, musician, page. Our minimum age is 18, although younger members are OK as part of a family. You must be 18 or over to fight.

We travel all over the country during the summer months (and sometimes the winter too) performing at a wide variety of events, from small village fayres to large multi-society re-enactment's of up to 1500 people, as well as film and video work.

The Society was first formed in 1974 by Dave Woodward, who is still out society grand master. The active Membership is currently 50 located around England (and we also have an affiliate chapter in the states, see the commandrie details below). We mainly cover the period from 1300 to 1485 but can turn our hands to earlier periods.

Our shows can include many highly educational and entertaining activities and displays depending on the requirements of the venue. Including foot tournaments, melees, skirmishes, static displays, encampments, shoot the knight participation archery and armour making demonstrations by our own in house armourers.

An important part of our displays is interacting with the public. We are always willing and able to talk to the public, and answer any questions about the display or any other medieval subject and let them handle and try on any of the arms and armour.

Our static display includes:

  • A Range of Medieval armour, weapons and equipment to view, handle and try on.
  • Encampment with Authentic tents and field equipment.
  • Heraldic colours and flags.
  • Early artillery and handguns.
  • Shoot the knight: Have a go archery against targets or actual armoured nights!
  • Armour making demonstrations.
  • Arming of a knight demonstration.

We stage various Arena events featuring A wide range of civilian and military characters: Knights, squires, Men at Arms, Archers, Hand gunners, skirmishers, standard bearers, pages, ladies etc:

  • Small scale foot tourney (8-15 participants)
  • Medium Skirmish (14-50)
  • Larger Battles (50+)

Show Arrangements:

  • Size and content of our arena and static displays tailored to the requirements of the venue.
  • Fees negotiable dependent on size and nature of show
  • We have our own public liability insurance.
  • Written contract required for all shows
