Location: cosmeston Lakes and medieval village, B4267, near Penarth/cardiff
Description: Cosmeston Medieval Village. This is worth a visit, especially if you've not been before, it’s a actual re-construction of a medieval village.

Multi-soc show same as last year. We have our own contracted booking to provide encampment and tourney displays and take part in single main battle each afternoon (still sorting out details so this may change). Need to enforce a good kit quality for this one, if your in doubt get in touch. Need to ensure we have numbers for both days and both battles, so if you will have to leave early we need to know.

There is normally an archery area and a compitition if anyone is interested.

Note: show is Sun/mon, not Sat.
Plastic and LH camping from Sat, Local towns and villages in easy travelling distance.

20-21 May

Wessex county show

Start: 20/05/2006 End: 21/05/2006 BPAS Show: YES Confirmed: YES
Location: Location
Woodlands, showground, Frome. On the B3092 (5 mins north of the A303).
Description: The usual Wessex show, lots of stalls and exhibits to look around, various main arena events, evening entertainment. Hopefully not as wet as last year!

We are doing a small LH encampment and stall with our own side arena, possible main arena event if we have the numbers otherwise will just do our own thing in the small arena. Mixture of practice, drill and combat displays whenever anyone wants. Will plan in a couple of tourneys or small skirmishes. Can use the handguns if anyone wants to?

Camping available all weekend from Friday. There is beer tent and entertainment (I.e. bands, comedians etc) in the evenings, plus the usual campsite merriment :) This is normally a good fun, relaxed, low key event to start the season. Suitable for all levels of kit as there's no authenticity, or even period, requirements being put on us by the organisers, but obviously hope everyone will do their best as usual.

THE REALLY IMPORTANT BIT

It is absolutely, positively vital that I get Car registrations in plenty of time for passes. Without them you WILL NOT be able to gain access to the site, without a lot of hassle for you, and more importantly me, on the day!!! You may end up having to pay to get in, then we have to claim it back.

Access is possible any time Friday. On Saturday and Sunday no cars will be allowed to drive onto the site after 9:15 (the public are admitted at 10:00) So aim to arrive before that (you also want to avoid the public traffic if possible). If you have to arrive after, you will have to park in the carpark, and carry your kit in, if this happens come and find us and grap some help.

Theres a dedicated parking area for participants which cars have to moved to after unloading,if you've only got a small amount of kit then best bet is to park there straight away and carry it in.

Usual MSS safety rules and kit standards apply. Full safety rules will be available on site which everyone must read and sign a form to say they have, also available on link below. We shouldn't have any problems as mostly same as our rules and standards. Main thing to check is tip and edge thickness of weapons as we allow less than MSS. Pole arms should have 10mm tip (1p piece), other weapons 9mm tip (5p piece), edges should be 2mm. Will be weapon checks and anything less than this may not be alllowed on, if not sure bring a selection so at least something will be OK.

Location: Chirk Castle, Chirk, Wrexham LL14 5AF.
1ml off A5, 2ml W of Chirk village; 7ml S of Wrexham, signposted off A483
Description: Inaugeral Medieval Joust/Fayre at Chirk Castle.

We have our own contracted booking so need a fair turn out. We will be doing our own arena display, There are other groups as well, but don't know if there will be a multi-soc bash or if everyone is doing there own thing. Jousting each day as well. Fairly strict authenticity requirments so will need proper boots and clothing, if you think yours may not be up to it let us know and loan stuff may be possible.

Open to public 11:00 each day. Close 17:00 sat, 16:00 Sun.

The Castle itself was completed in around 1300 and has been a home, mostly to the Myddleton family, for the greater part of this time although it is now operated by the National Trust. It sits in around 40 acres of prime parkland.

The event will be covering the period of roughly the 100 years war and 14C/early 15C kit is being specified, don't know yet how strict this will be, but would be an idea to try and adapt your kit if it’s a bit later, I.e. no sallets, use a surcoat over the armour etc. Will let eveyone know for sure before the event.

This is especially poiniant as the castle housed French prisoners during this time. It will nclude a tournament & joust as well a full arena programme. Living History camps will also be set up around the designated area of the parkland used for the event although any mounted knights will have free reign to ride over the 40 acres!!

There will be plastic camp facilities on-site but there is also excellent accommodation available within the area for those who want it!!

16-17 Sep

Leominster Medieval Fair(Mortimers Cross)

Start: 16/09/2006 End: 17/09/2006 BPAS Show: NO Confirmed: YES
Location: The Grange (a park in Leominster). Leominster, Shropshire
Description: Usual Mortimers cross battle, but moved to September from June and on a new site.

We have been informed that the site is quite small, so don't know how crowded it will be, we have registered with the numbers of people and tents as they stand at the moment. There is LH and plastic camping, but we are not planning or booked for a LH site, other than possibly one large tent to store kit, change in, hide from the rain etc.

The festival site is open from Friday, you can drive into the campsite to unload but cars must be moved to a separate car-park at the fire station (See P on detail map). If arriving Sat or Sun morning cars must be moved by 10.00 am, cars not allowed back on until 18.00 each day. Camper vans/caravans are allowed on site.

As an alternative, anyone who wants is welcome to stay at Dave Woodwards place instead of at the festival site, which is only 10 miles away, he has plenty of space for tents in garden and field, and floor space if you'd prefer and is treating it as a impromptu end of season party on the Saturday night for anyone who wants to stay. He is planning to provide food for a mini banquet/party Saturday night for all members (self catering Friday though). Just chicken in a basket sort of stuff, bring drinks and any extra food you fancy. We can then share cars and convoy to the show each day. Let me know if you want to stay at Daves and which nights and I will compile a list so he knows how many to expect.

More details on the festival:

There is an archery tournament with a prize of £50 and flagon of cider, with a £5 entry fee. There is bar, refreshments and traders. It is in the centre of town so easy to get out to shops, pubs etc. No weapons of site though, and that includes little belt knifes and daggers!

1 battle a day, done as a re-enactment of Mortimers Cross 1461.

I believe it opens to public at 10:00 and finishes around 18:00

Because its right in the town with easy access for anyone who wants to get on site be very security aware. They advise locking valuables in vehicles, but as they have to be parked of site that could be awkward. May have to make sure someone is in camp at all time

See map on link below for location.
